The Alliance for Building Better Medicine
The Alliance for Building Better Medicine is establishing a globally competitive ecosystem for manufacturing critically important medicines in the United States. The Alliance is made up of 17 partners, including higher education, private sector, public sector, and economic development organizations, who all work collaboratively to support advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing in Central Virginia. Higher education partners offer certificates, credentials, and degree paths from the undergraduate to doctoral levels in pharmaceutical sciences, manufacturing, and engineering.
Virginia Bio
Virginia Bio is a statewide nonprofit trade association that promotes the biotechnology industry in Virginia. It supports innovation and growth through networking, advocacy, capital investment and talent development. Virginia Bio connects members with funding resources as well as academia and industry. Virginia Bio also directs the $3.2 million statewide Virginia Bio-Connect program to increase connectivity and awareness of existing programs, resources, and communities in the industry as well as to help connect graduates with Virginia-based life science and biotechnology companies.
Medicines for All Institute at Virginia Commonwealth University
The Medicines for All Institute (M4ALL) is based in Richmond at the VCU College of Engineering and was founded in 2017 with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It is committed to improving global access to high-quality medications by driving down production costs. By re-imagining manufacturing processes, M4ALL’s chemical engineers and chemists optimize active pharmaceutical ingredient production and provide open access to manufacturers around the world to enhance the security of medicine supply chains.
Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM)
The Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM) provides a resourceful and intellectual-property-friendly collaborative environment to solve complex advanced manufacturing problems across a variety of industries, including life sciences. CCAM is the center of an innovation ecosystem in which academia, government, and industry partner to create real economic value. CCAM plays an active role in the development of a talented manufacturing workforce, providing a substantial and diverse educational pathway. CCAM is located in a state-of-the-art research facility in Prince George County.
